Fire Emblem Three Houses Selling Out! Mass Shortages

I predicted Fire Emblem Three Houses to be big, but not this big. Early reports have it selling out at a lot of retailers. It debuted at no1 in the UK by a wide margin according to Nintendo Everything and Amazon is completely sold out. Benji Sales who broke the news about MUA 3 big sales says that FETH is outperforming MUA3 by a big margin. Wow! I am so happy for Nintendo, Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo. Congrats!

Looks like Nintendo has another blockbuster on their hands. With Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina and Link’s Awakening coming out in the next 2 months, don’t expect the momentum to slow down anytime soon.

Fire Emblem Three Houses: Critic and Sales Prediction

By Michelle Lynn Tackett

I was close with MUA3 and Mario Maker 2, so FETH is up next. I am gonna predict what I think FETH will get on Opencritic and how much it will sale in it’s first week and overall. Here we go.

Critic response

Fire Emblem is usually a favorite among critics and the early previews have been astonishing with reviewers gushing over the story, characters, combat and music. I predict the game will end up with a 93-95 on Opencritic with mostly 9s and 10s a few 8s and maybe 2 7s. I can see a few critics not liking the graphics and how the game takes a long time to get to the time jump, but with most critics, it won’t matter. The gameplay, story, music, characters and incredible length will blow most reviewers away. This could be an early favorite for GOTY.

Sales

I can see this having the biggest debut for a Fire Emblem game. I predict the game will sell the most in America and Japan, with Europe being the low point (which is saying a lot). I have first week sales at 1.7 million, and overall sales between 5-7 million copies. Fire Emblem has become a big franchise, but Three Houses will take it to another level.

Fire Emblem is gonna be an event game, and I can’t wait for new fans to play it. It is a great series everyone. Enjoy!

Why Dragon Quest XI S Will Be the Switch’s Best Selling 3rd Party Game

Even over Mario+Rabbids. I think Dragon Quest XI S will replace it as the Switch’s best selling 3rd party game. Here are 3 reasons why.

1: Japan

Dragon Quest is bigger than Final Fantasy in Japan. This game could top 2 million alone in Japan. Dragon Quest is only behind Pokemon Smash, and Splatoon when it comes to popularity. That’s quiet an accomplishment.

2: No Ordinary Port

This is like a new game. It has tons of new content, I will name a few of the new features. A 16-bit mode, new story elements, full Japanese voice acting, new creatures you can ride on, a horse racing mode and full orchestrated music. I haven’t touched the surface of the new content in this version. It’s staggering!

3: It’s a huge RPG you can play on the go.

Those are very popular on the Switch. Games like Skyrim and Diablo 3 have done big numbers on the Switch. Also, games like Octopath Travler, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the Final Fantasy games have done great as well. This will be an attractive game to those consumers who need a new RPG itch to scratch.

Square put a lot of effort into this game. The graphics are close to the PS4 version and there are so much new content to warrent a purchase, even if you’ve bought it on the PS4. This will also show people who don’t think 3rd party games can sell on the Switch just how big a game like this can be. Buy this game Nintendo fans!

Sales projection:

Japan: 2.2 million

Europe: 700k

America: 1.2 million.

Other areas: 200k

Overall: 4.3 million physical and digital.

Astral Chain is Going to Be A GOTY Contender

The buzz at the E3 on Astral Chain is off the hook! This game is getting rave reviews from critics and fans alike. The complex action, mixed with innovative use of magic and weapons is making this game a GOTY contender. It isn’t hard to believe, Platinum games makes it, that’s all I need to know. This game could be one of Nintendo’s next big IPs. It is simply mind blowing.

The story is gripping, the controls are spot on, the combat is smooth, there is variety, and it is huge in scope. Nintendo is taking chances again and that’s a great sign. I will put the video to the tree house events below. It is amazing how good this game looks now. It comes out August 30th and is only for the Nintendo Switch.

My Open Critic Prediction: 94 Critics will love the combat, deep game play, moving story and great art style.

Worldwide sales prediction: 5 million in 2 years. Great word of mouth will keep it in the top sellers for a long time. Nintendo has a HUGE new franchise.

Nintendo and Square Save E3! E3 Review

I thought the E3 was ok, until late last night and today. Two legends Nintendo and Square destroyed it! Let’s rate their showcases.

Square: They started out with a bang with FF VII, and kept the hits coming. Final Fantasy 8 is finally coming! Oninaki, Avengers, new content for FF 14, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and more info on Dragon Quest XI. The games kept coming, they went on about Avengers a little too long and we could’ve done without the mobile games, but oh well. This was a great show. Square, you are getting great again.

Grade: A

Nintendo: Oh dear lord. From the second this direct started with the hero from Dragon Quest, to Daemon X Machina, Link’s Awakening, Panzer Dragoon, A new Contra, Spyro, Witcher 3, Astral Chain, Animal Crossing, Banjo in Smash and the new sequel to the Legend of Zelda Breathe of the Wild. One great relieve after another. It didn’t stop! Nintendo edges out Square to earn the best of E3. Tons of games and lots of fun surprises. This is how you do it.

Grade: A+

Overall E3 Grade B+, a slow start, but a strong finish. Nintendo and Square bought the goods. Microsoft get’s third place. They had a good show, but Nintendo won the E3 easily. EA, Ubisoft and Bethesda, watch Nintendo, Microsoft and Square, that’s how you do it! The E3 is supposed to be about games. Show us the games please! Enough with this nonsense of mobile games and TV shows. Give the fans what they want to see, bad hype can ruin your momentum.

Best of the Show: Nintendo. Games, games and more games!

Worst: Ubisoft. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wake me up when they show actual game play and some actual games.

Biggest Surprise: Panzer Dragoon remake!

Game of the Show: The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

Weathering With You: Trailer Review

I am a huge fan of the classic anime Your Name. Makoto Shinkai is a master at storytelling, emotion, and animation. His new movie Weathering With You looks just as good.

Animation

The Animation looks incredible. It looks like someone from the future made it. Gorgeous details, eye-popping color, and fluid movement give the animation a surreal look. This movie seems too good for a mortal to make. Shinkai is no mere mortal.

Good scenes

From the second it starts to the epic conclusion, the trailer is jam-packed with great scenes. It doesn’t give too much away and it ends on the right note. I can’t give too much away, I want you to watch the trailer and experience it for yourself. If you don’t get chills while watching it check your pulse!

Final Thoughts

Makoto Shinkai is the new master of anime, nay, animation. This movie looks adorable, romantic and emotional. It has a lot of the same themes as his other movies, but it also explores themes he hasn’t in his other movies, giving it a richer narrative. Shinkai doesn’t want to be predictable throwing new ideas in helping keep his ideas fresh. The music soars in the trailer, the message is clear, and the characters are lovable. You want to reach through the screen and hug them. This looks like pure magic from start to finish.

Grade: 4 Stars! This is a must see trailer! Anime fans and fans of good cinema should be excited. Makoto Shinkai is back, and he’s gonna craft another masterpiece.

Your Name Review

Review By Michelle Lynn Tackett

Ratings:

1 Star: God save the Queen!

2 Stars: An OK Movie bought down by some major flaws.

3 Stars: A good movie that just misses the mark of being a great movie.

4 Stars: One of the best movies you can see.

I love anime so much. The colors, stories, gorgeous images, and colorful characters. I think anime gives us a lot of things that American animation doesn’t. When I watch great anime, I fall head over heels for it, and Your name is one of the best anime, no, movies I’ve ever seen.

Characters

Mitsuha and Taki are two of the greatest characters I’ve seen in any movie. They’re your typical high school kids. Mitsuha is struggling with rural angst while Taki is struggling with Urban disdain. Miki, Yotsuha, and Hitoha round out one of the most wonderful casts of characters who you’ll see. Taki and Mitsuha are lovable characters that you’ll want them to succeed badly. Your palms will sweat, and you’ll shed some tears over their pain. This is how you do it! Disney used to know how to do this in their movies, but they have lost that magic touch. Thankfully, movies like this haven’t. The perfect voice acting is the icing on the cake.

Story

The story revolves around Taki and Mitsuha. How they deal with their daily struggles, trying to balance work and school. One night, Taki and Mitsuha are going to a celebration, the next morning, they switch bodies. This is where the fun begins for them. I am not going to give too much away, but there is a reason this is happening to them. The story has some nice depth, and the plot makes sense. It unfolds in a natural way with some nice surprises and emotional depth. What a wonderful story that’s perfectly executed.

Directing

Makoto Shinkai knocks it out of the park with perfect directing. Every scene makes sense, and his attention to detail is astonishing. You feel like you are there with Taki and Mitsuha. Astonishing scenes of beauty are coupled with lots of adorable laughs, and incredible shots of cel animation that makes most Hollywood animated movies look primitive. Who says animation cannot have mature stories with real characters. Shinkai’s innovative use of low angles and wide shots to tell a compelling story. This is movie making at it’s best. When you watch this movie, you’ll see a clinic for film making. Take notes while watching, you’ll learn something.

Screenplay

Makoto Shinkai did a fantastic job on the screenplay. Take out the cynicism of most Hollywood animated movies and replace it with genuine emotion with characters we want to root for. That makes this a mind-blowing screenplay. I dare anyone to watch the garbage Disney has been spewing out to this masterwork. Perfect dialogue, incredible heart, and genuine emotion raise this above anything Disney has put out as of late. Void of cliches and lazy storytelling, this screenplay nails the importance of storytelling. Your Name shows what animation can be as a medium. You can feel the love coming out of Shinkai. He wants us to feel for the characters, laugh hard, and cry so much it hurts. Chills would run up my spine in some scenes, they were that good. This is how you do it.

Flaws

What are those? This movie has none of those you speak of.

Final Thoughts

From the perfect animation to the lovable characters, wonderful story, perfect directing, and gripping screenplay, Your Name is an exercise in film making at it’s best. If you are worn out on American animation, Watch this movie instead. You will see one of the best animated movies ever. Rarely does a movie blow me away this much, but Your Name did. I have seen it multiple times, and it gets better with each viewing. I laughed a lot, cried a lot, and I thought a lot about my life. This movie makes you think about important things in your life and how we take them for granted. I cannot recommend it enough.

Grade: If I could give it 100 stars, I would. 4 Stars! Breathtaking animation mixed with wonderful characters, gorgeous story telling and a screenplay written to perfection. Your Name will be VERY high on my list of favorite movies of all time.

Picks By Michelle Lynn Tackett & Shawn Tackett

Michelle

It is not hard for me to think of my top 10 favorite video game companies, (this includes the devs and publishers, 1st, 2nd or 3rd party). This list is based on how much we love the companies games, and how many games are in our collection. So, here we go.

Mario Maker Direct! What Will Be There?

Nintendo announced that a 15 minute direct will drop tomorrow. It will be all about Mario Maker 2. What can we expect from this? I have some theories, so let’s get to it.

World Builder

Yep, I am calling it. Think about it, the file size is over 5 GB. That is twice the size of the original and it would make sense. Imagine sharing complete worlds online. That would be awesome.

Multiplayer

I know, this isn’t a secret. Looking at the box art gives it away. I do think it will be announced tomorrow anyway to make it official.

Another Game

We know 3-D world is one of the new games we can make levels in, but I think there is one more. Can I prove it? No, but it would make sense.

Extra Characters to Use

Nintendo might put Toadette or Daisy in as playable characters.

New Power-ups

From other games. I think Nintendo might put the Toadette crown in, or maybe cappy? That one is doubtful, but you never know.

Tomorrow we will find out what will officially be in the game, so I hope some of my wild predictions come true. Mario Maker 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest games of the year. I think what I listed will help the game, and I hope Nintendo doesn’t forget that robust games are driving the Switch. This looks like it will be one, so let’s cross our fingers. Bring it on Nintendo!

Detective Pikachu Review

Ratings: 1 Star: Get me outta here! I hate this movie! 2 Stars: A decent movie bogged down by some issues. 3 Stars: A good movie that is close to great. 4 Stars: A real winner! A wonderful movie that needs to be seen. Video game movies do not have a good track record when it comes to movies based on them. From Super Mario Bros to Mortal Kombat, video game movies have been examples of how NOT to do movies based on popular intellectual properties. Can Detective Pikachu break the curse? Let’s find out. Characters The characters are getting mixed reactions and I don’t understand that. Tim is a very relatable character who struggles with his confidence and the effects of his father not being in his life. Lucy is the plucky reporter in training who helps Tim along the way and of course Detective Pikachu himself who steals every scene he is in! Detective Pikachu is one of the best characters I have seen on screen in a long time. Ryan Renolds is gold! His comedic timing and light touches do miracles in bringing Pikachu to life. It shows what a wonderful actor he is. I do think the villains could have used some fleshing out, but they do their job to help drive the story along. Justice Smith does a great job of showing the insecurities and vulnerabilities of a young person trying to find their way. Lucy could’ve used more screen time, she’s cute and energetic, but she doesn’t have enough screen time to develop her character. Hopefully, a sequel will help flesh her out. There are some good characters in the movie, but Tim and Pikachu are the standouts. Story The story is getting some criticism for being too predictable, but some of the criticism isn’t good. I won’t give too much away, but it does have a standard hero story. There isn’t a lot of big surprises, but did Endgame have any twists or original story? Not many movies have original stories anymore, so I judge if the story works in the context of the movie. Does the story work? Yes, this is a simple introduction that helps establish what this world is and why we should care. It has a human story that anyone can understand and the story makes sense. We do know that Tim is trying to find out what happened to his dad and only Detective Pikachu can help him. What I liked is how they didn’t bog the story down with too much plot. The story is easy to follow and is easy to understand, even if you’re not a Pokemon fan. Directing Rob Letterman directed this movie and he did an excellent job. I liked the Eastern influence he bought to the movie. It had some Blade Runner vibes with the nighttime scenes. I have heard Grace Randolph and other reviewers mention this as well. He does a good job mixing light and dark tones together. One minute the movie is a lighthearted family movie, the next it’s a dark film noir mystery. The use of close-ups helps with driving home the emotional scenes. You can see the pain with the close-up shots. No tricks or fancy camera work just solid, simple directing that lets the scenes play out. The action scenes are easy to track and the pace is just right. Screenplay Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit, Rob Letterman, and Derek Connolly wrote the screenplay. The movie has sharp writing and touching moments that work well together. Tim’s problems are treated with real emotion and not as a punchline as some movies do, (Avengers Endgame, I am looking at you). I can see some of the internet fan people going off about how there are not many Pokemon battles, (this is a movie called Detective Pikachu, it’s not meant to be the anime). It is based on the 3DS game. It didn’t have Pokemon battles in it. This movie is more of a detective movie and the screenplay wisely focuses on the journey and knows when to place the action and laughs. There are some Pokemon battles, but they’re not the main attraction. Family content Is this a good family movie? Yes, it is. There are only three curse words and it isn’t even bad. A few jokes have some adult themes, and there is some scary action, but other then that; there is nothing in this movie that would offend anyone. This is a PG movie and it doesn’t have a lot to upset families. I would recommend children over the age of seven go. Some scenes might be too scary for little children. Flaws Every movie has flaws. The biggest complaint I have is the running time. It is only 1 hour and 44 minutes long. With all of the Pokemon and human characters in the movie, it should’ve been over 2 hours. The movie moves at a fast pace and there isn’t enough time to get to know some of the minor characters. Also, the villain should’ve been more fleshed out. I do hope the sequel gives us more time with them. Other than that, I can’t find anything to criticize. Final Thoughts Detective Pikachu is a great family movie. The real star is Pikachu himself. He is so snugly, adorable and cute you want to reach through the screen and hug him for hours! The other Pokemon look great too. From Jigglypuff to Squirtle and Psyduck, they got the looks of the Pokemon right and their personalities. This is how you do beloved video game characters in a movie. This is how you don’t upset a fan base so much that they want to grab pitchforks and torches, go to Hollywood and riot. The makers of Sonic the Hedgehog could learn a lot from this movie. This is how you make the fans happy, this is how you make a great family film that doesn’t insult the audience and gives people their money’s worth. Score: 4 Stars A snugly wuggly grand slam of an adorable family movie that will put you in a good mood. If you love Pokemon or just good family movies. Go see this movie now!
