Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3 VS Square Enix’s Avengers

By Michelle Lynn Tackett

It seems fans are more excited for Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3 than they are for Square Enix’s version of Avengers. After all of the hype surrounding Square Enix’s Avengers what happened? Why are more comic book and video game fans more excited for MUA 3?

It has a lot to do with the look of the game. A lot of fans are put off by how the characters look. They think the cel-shaded characters in MUA 3 look much better. According to an article by Nintendo Life, fans are complaining that the characters in the Square Enix game look odd. It does, there is no denying that. MUA 3 has an animated look, and it helps the characters look like their counter parts more than the realistic look in Avengers.

I think the lesson to learn from this is, looks don’t matter. Square Enix’s Avengers has all the razzle dazzle and big budget, but MUA 3 has a better style that helps the characters look more like their comic book counter parts and the game looks fun. That’s the most important thing.

Why Dragon Quest XI S Will Be the Switch’s Best Selling 3rd Party Game

Even over Mario+Rabbids. I think Dragon Quest XI S will replace it as the Switch’s best selling 3rd party game. Here are 3 reasons why.

1: Japan

Dragon Quest is bigger than Final Fantasy in Japan. This game could top 2 million alone in Japan. Dragon Quest is only behind Pokemon Smash, and Splatoon when it comes to popularity. That’s quiet an accomplishment.

2: No Ordinary Port

This is like a new game. It has tons of new content, I will name a few of the new features. A 16-bit mode, new story elements, full Japanese voice acting, new creatures you can ride on, a horse racing mode and full orchestrated music. I haven’t touched the surface of the new content in this version. It’s staggering!

3: It’s a huge RPG you can play on the go.

Those are very popular on the Switch. Games like Skyrim and Diablo 3 have done big numbers on the Switch. Also, games like Octopath Travler, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the Final Fantasy games have done great as well. This will be an attractive game to those consumers who need a new RPG itch to scratch.

Square put a lot of effort into this game. The graphics are close to the PS4 version and there are so much new content to warrent a purchase, even if you’ve bought it on the PS4. This will also show people who don’t think 3rd party games can sell on the Switch just how big a game like this can be. Buy this game Nintendo fans!

Sales projection:

Japan: 2.2 million

Europe: 700k

America: 1.2 million.

Other areas: 200k

Overall: 4.3 million physical and digital.

Nintendo and Square Save E3! E3 Review

I thought the E3 was ok, until late last night and today. Two legends Nintendo and Square destroyed it! Let’s rate their showcases.

Square: They started out with a bang with FF VII, and kept the hits coming. Final Fantasy 8 is finally coming! Oninaki, Avengers, new content for FF 14, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and more info on Dragon Quest XI. The games kept coming, they went on about Avengers a little too long and we could’ve done without the mobile games, but oh well. This was a great show. Square, you are getting great again.

Grade: A

Nintendo: Oh dear lord. From the second this direct started with the hero from Dragon Quest, to Daemon X Machina, Link’s Awakening, Panzer Dragoon, A new Contra, Spyro, Witcher 3, Astral Chain, Animal Crossing, Banjo in Smash and the new sequel to the Legend of Zelda Breathe of the Wild. One great relieve after another. It didn’t stop! Nintendo edges out Square to earn the best of E3. Tons of games and lots of fun surprises. This is how you do it.

Grade: A+

Overall E3 Grade B+, a slow start, but a strong finish. Nintendo and Square bought the goods. Microsoft get’s third place. They had a good show, but Nintendo won the E3 easily. EA, Ubisoft and Bethesda, watch Nintendo, Microsoft and Square, that’s how you do it! The E3 is supposed to be about games. Show us the games please! Enough with this nonsense of mobile games and TV shows. Give the fans what they want to see, bad hype can ruin your momentum.

Best of the Show: Nintendo. Games, games and more games!

Worst: Ubisoft. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wake me up when they show actual game play and some actual games.

Biggest Surprise: Panzer Dragoon remake!

Game of the Show: The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

E3 Grades So Far

The E3 is off to a mediocre start. Let’s grade the shows.

EA: Star Wars was ok, but it was snorevill after wards. FIFA 20 Legacy collection? Are you kidding me? More of the same with no surprises.

Grade: D

Microsoft: Lots of games with game play. This was a good show. Battletoads, Halo, Gears and Ori looked amazing. I wish there had been more game play and more surprises. Other then that, this was a solid conference.

Grade: A-

Bethesda: I love Bethesda, but this conference was painful. Too many sheep applauding like Todd Howard had a gun to their back and not enough game play. Doom Eternal looked amazing, Elder’s Scroll Blades and Wolfenstein Young Blood look amazing. Too much FMV and not enough gameplay. The biggest problem was how many mobile games they showed. We want console games!

Grade: D

Ubisoft: This was a disaster. I want my 75 minutes back! This was a joke. This showed how horrible a boring conference can be. A few decent games, but a TV show? Mostly FMV and no diversity. Too many shooters. I wanted to watch a video showing brain surgery. That would’ve been more entertaining than this disaster.

Grade: F

Save us Square and Nintendo!

Overall, the E3 has been below par. Why are companies focusing on TV shows, streaming services and new tech when gamers want games! Gameplay footage, not just FMV. These companies are way out of touch. Microsoft was good, they kept the pace fast and showed a lot of game. That’s how you do it!

Grade so far: C-

My Nintendo E3 Predictions

By Michelle Lynn Tackett

These are guesses, so don’t come to my blog going, “Duh, you said that this would be there.” I am having fun ok? We are allowed to do that. I don’t know if some of these games will be here, I hope they will. Let’s a go!

The Nintendo Direct will start off with Retro Studio’s new game. A sci-fi action/adventure game with innovative motion controls and world building. I don’t know what the name is, but with all of the evidence of Retro hiring people for a project like this. It would make sense for Nintendo to show us what Retro has cooking.

Next up will be Luigi’s Mansion 3. A full 2 minute trailer showcasing the new mechanics and enemies. I think the release date will be October 18th.

Next up will be short trailers of 3rd party games. Including Witcher 3, Doom Eternal, Kingdom Hearts collection, WWE 20K and Fall Out 3.

Next Up will be Bravely Third from Square. A short 1 minute trailer and a vague 2020 release date.

Next up is some info on some new Indie games. Maybe Dead Cells 2?

Then we will have the game a lot of Nintendo fans have been clamoring for. Animal Crossing. Expect a 3 minute trailer detailing new game play and new features. Release date of Sept. 13th.

Next up will be Astral Chain. A 3 minute trailer with new details.

Then Fire Emblem will be shown.

More 3rd Party Games. Call Of Duty, which one? I don’t know. Overwatch and Soul Calibur 6.

Some quick info on Mario Maker 2 and Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Nintendo will finally say SNES games will come to the online service, which will get a 20 dollar a year or 60 dollar a year option with all the bells and whistles.

Some footage of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

Daemon X Machina trailer which looks better and a release date of August 9th.

More info on The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening. Release date, December 6th.

2 last games. The first one is Metroid Prime trilogy. A trailer about 1 minute long with a release date of Nov 15th.

The last one is the first footage of Bayonetta 3. A 2 minute trailer showing off the first gameplay footage. A release date of Early 2020.

The direct will be 43 minutes. Some fans will complain about no new Mario game or something. They will find something to complain about. Everyone else will call em crazy and hilarity will ensue.

Those are my predictions. I hope I am right on all of these. E3 is only a few days a way and Nintendo’s E3 presentation is only 5 days away! I am so excited. Woo Hoo! Let’s a go!

Nintendo Switch Domination in Japan.

According to the Famitsu weekly sales, 21 of the top 30 sellers are Switch games. From first party games like Pokemon Let’s Go, Mario Party, Smash, Mario and Zelda. To 3rd party games like 2 Final Fantasy games, Dragon’s Dogma, Dragon Ball Heroes and Sword Art Online. The Switch is crushing it and anyone would be wise to bring their game to the Switch. Those who don’t, will be the losers in the end.

Why Is Capcom Doing So Many Digital Games on the Switch

We heard the good news, the Devil May Cry is coming to the Nintendo Switch. During Capcom’s financial reports, Capcom talked about how well they are doing. Games like Resident Evil 2, DMC 5 and Mega Man 11 are doing great. Unlike Sega, Capcom is utilizing their franchises and it’s showing with robust sales. However, one disturbing trend is Capcom is putting a lot of their Switch releases on digital only. Why? Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, the Switch versions of Mega Man 11 and SF 30th Anniversary are doing great! Why not release games like the Phoenix Right Ace Attorney collection, Okami and the Devil May Cry physically on the Switch? I could understand if Capcom’s games were not selling on the Switch, but that isn’t the case.

Look at Namco/Bandai and Square/Enix. They release most of their games on physical and digital. Switch consumers have been rewarding them with huge sales. Games like Octopath, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Dark Souls and DQB are all selling great. It is time 3rd parties stopped looking at Nintendo with a cynical lens. What do Nintendo fans need to do to prove to 3rd parties that the Switch is a great place for them to release their games on as well as the XBO, and the PS4. This isn’t the early 2000’s anymore when a lot of 3rd party games wouldn’t sell on Nintendo platforms. The Switch is showing how well 3rd party games can sell and it is time more 3rd parties realized it.

How Sega Can Rise Again

Back in the 90s, Sega and Nintendo ruled video games. Until Sega made some bad moves and quit making hardware after the Dreamcast didn’t sell. Everyone thought Sega would be the dominate third party after they quit making consoles to focus on making games as a third party publisher. It didn’t happen and in Sega’s new financial report. They saw a dip in revenue, which isn’t good. What can Sega do to recover and be a powerhouse again.

Focus On Your Popular IPs

Not just Sonic either. Sonic Mania was a huge success for Sega. It was Sonic returning to his roots as a 2D side scroller and it worked to perfection. Huge sales and great critical acclaim followed. That’s great, but you need more than one game to help your company. Why not do a new Phantasy Star? Not just online either. Single player JRPGs sell great as well. Take Persona 5, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Octopath Travler for example. Don’t think that Phantasy Star always needs to be an MMO. Single player JRPGs do sell.

Let’s not forget Virtual Fighter. Why not make a new Virtual Fighter? That series was awesome. Panser Dragoon, Jet Set Radio, Gunstar Heroes and Virtual Racing! Sega, you have a plethora of gems for franchises. Don’t waste your time focusing on mafia games all the time!

Embrace the Nintendo Switch

It’s ok to make games for the Playstation 4 and X Box One, but the Nintendo Switch is on fire, especially in Japan. Hey Sega, you are a Japanese company and it would be unwise to focus on the PS4 so much, when the Nintendo Switch is dominating Japan right now. Look at Namco and Square. They have benefited from making a lot of games for the Switch. Take the hint Sega, and look at how well Sonic Mania Plus and Puyo Puyo, Tetris have done on the Switch. Take the hint Sega and lastly, put Persona 5 on the Switch. Not a half baked Dynasty Warrior clone, but the actual game. The Switch has a portable aspect and that makes it so appealing to play big games like Persona 5. You are leaving money on the table Sega. Don’t do that, it’s bad business.

Manage Your IPs

Stop making 3D Sonic games that everyone us split on. Stop making Phantasy Star an MMO only and make sure your big IPs release with a steller game each time. That will build up consumer confidence and trust.

Aggressive Marketing

Let people know about your games. Advertise the games to let gamers know about them. It’s what helped ylu Sega compete with Nintendo back in the day. Your aggressive marketing. Let gamers know Sega is back and they brought some great games for them to play.

I want go see Sega make a big comeback. I grew up on them and I love a lot of their games. Oh, don’t forget Super Monkey Ball either. With games like that Sega, you can make a roaring comeback and be the huge 3rd party publisher everyone predicted you to be. Bring back your old classics, embrace the Nintendo Switch and Market your games. If you do this, you will be one of the top third party publishers in the industry. Come on Sega, you can do this!
